Description

NGC 2683 is a spiral galaxy located about 25 million light years away, located in the Lynx constellation. Its apparent magnitude is 10.6. It has been informally called the UFO Galaxy (unidentified flying object, UFO) due to its resemblance to a flying saucer. With medium telescopes it appears as a faint line of light, since it is almost sideways from our perspective. Since I have obtained this image with my small ED80, I have used the Dizzle combination to be able to increase the resolution without the appearance of artifacts and thus be able to appreciate the yellowish core and the dust lanes that make up its spiral arms.

NGC 2683 has about 300 globular clusters - twice as many as our galaxy - and is the brightest member of the group of galaxies of its name.
